Nomad Fuel Drivers — mobile app

Idea, technical direction and delivery pipeline · React Native (Expo)

Problem
Fleet customers had no way to manage fuel cards in the field. "We should have an app" was an idea nobody could picture, so it never got prioritised.
Approach
Built an early prototype and demoed it to the product team to show what mobile could unlock. That secured buy-in and shaped the roadmap. I then led the technical direction and defined what shipped: drivers view their assigned fuel card, check status and details, monitor transactions in real time, and block a lost or stolen card instantly. Built inside the existing Nx monorepo so mobile shares types, a generated API client SDK, and utilities with web and backend, with no contract drift.
Outcome
A publicly available app that started as my proof of concept, with a hands-off release process and real visibility into stability in users' hands. Fastlane lanes handled iOS and Android signing, builds and distribution with no EAS; GitHub Actions ran those lanes on demand; Firebase covered beta distribution, Crashlytics and performance monitoring. I ran the entire App Store submission myself.

Nomad Fuel Team workflow

AI-assisted delivery workflow

Problem
AI coding agents are fast and unreliable by default. In a layered monorepo with multi-tenant data, a plausible change that crosses a boundary or leaks across tenants costs more than it saves.
Approach
One command took a Jira ticket through planning, implementation and review to a draft pull request, as three sessions that each started the next. Specialist agents owned the backend, web, mobile, database and CI lanes. A reviewer gated every task, and a second reviewed the whole branch once. Before proposing a design, agents queried a knowledge base of design decisions and past incidents.
Outcome
The rules lived in code, not prompts. Nx module boundaries failed lint on an upward import, CI validators checked tenant writes, timestamps and API contracts, and hooks blocked edits to protected files. Every production incident left a regression test and a written record.

Scope
Six systems used by government officers and the public. Contributed to Student Learning Space and the Moment of Life CMS as an engineer; led GALE / ResponderSG, Case Connect, the Meet-the-People Appeal System, and the national Feedback Management System.
Approach
Led four of the six, from ResponderSG onward. On Case Connect, a multi-agency referral system officers use to coordinate aid for residents and low-income families, I architected the end-to-end task workflow, a drag-and-drop Kanban board for case lifecycles, and real-time status tracking that replaced a manual process. As Central Technical Lead I then set direction across repositories and built the shared libraries the project teams worked from.

  • Led the US market launch with an independent deployment for data residency.
  • Re-architected the backend into event-driven services and migrated Pub/Sub workloads to Cloud Tasks.
